The IMCO SC Upper is engineered for strength, rigidity, and reliable performance under high-load applications.

• Net-Forged Straight-Cut Gears — 40% stronger than standard Bravo spiral-cut gears. A thicker upper gear floor provides additional structural integrity to handle increased torque.
• Rigid Pinion & Bearing Pack — Engineered with non-elastic shims to establish proper rolling torque while stabilizing the input yoke and pinion.
• Direct-Load Pinion Retention — A plated steel U-joint retainer nut secures the pinion assembly through a direct load-bearing path.
• 75 ft-lb Retainer Torque — Pinion assembly is precisely secured to maintain proper bearing and gear alignment.
• Multiple Lower Unit Options — Designed for use with our IMCO SC standard-length, 1-inch-shorter, and 2-inch-shorter lower units.

Bravo Compatibility & Installation

The IMCO SC Drive is designed as a direct replacement for the Mercury Bravo drive, allowing customers to upgrade from a stock Bravo drive to the IMCO SC with minimal modification to the stock Bravo gimble helmet of the transom assembly.

This design allows the IMCO SC to integrate with existing Bravo applications while providing the increased strength and rigidity of the IMCO drive system.

Steering Compatibility

The IMCO SC Upper is supplied without a steering cap. Customers can utilize their existing Bravo steering setup with the IMCO SC Upper, making it possible to upgrade the upper drive without replacing the existing steering system.

Our IMCO steering caps for the SC Upper are manufactured specifically for use with the IMCO California Gimbal and are not included with the SC Upper.

Torque Rating & Application

IMCO rates its drives based on engine torque rather than horsepower. The SC Lower is recommended for applications producing up to approximately 580-600 ft-lb of engine torque.

As a general reference, this torque range can be associated with Mercury big-block applications in the 450–550 HP range, depending on whether the engine is naturally aspirated or boosted. A naturally aspirated big block typically falls into the 500–550 HP range at this torque level. Conversely, a boosted (supercharged or turbocharged) blower motor can easily hit this 580–600 ft-lb torque ceiling at a much lower 450–500 HP threshold. Horsepower is provided only as a general reference, as actual drivetrain loads depend on a variety of factors including engine output, boat size and weight, propeller selection, gearing, and overall application.

For larger or heavier boats, IMCO recommends staying at or below the lower end of the torque range to help maintain appropriate drivetrain loading.
